The 11th Sinosteel LIRR—Korea Chosun Refractories Technical Exchange Meeting Successfully Held at CR Gwangyang Plant, South Korea
Recently, the 11th Sinosteel Luoyang Institute of Refractories Research Co., Ltd. (Sinosteel LIRR)—Korea Chosun Refractories Co., Ltd. Technical Exchange Meeting was successfully convened at the CR Gwangyang Plant of Chosun Refractories Co., Ltd., South Korea.
Technical representatives from both Sinosteel LIRR and Chosun Refractories gathered at the venue for indepth exchanges and discussions on cuttingedge refractories technologies against the backdrop of lowcarbon metallurgy. Lee Dongseok, Director of the Research Institute at Chosun Refractories Co., Ltd., delivered the opening remarks for the meeting.
This exchange event forms part of an ongoing series of technical dialogues between the two parties. The Chinese delegation from Sinosteel LIRR was led by Wang Wenwu, Deputy General Manager, and consisted of key technical personnel from the R&D Center and Composite Materials Branch. Technical backbones from multiple divisions of Chosun Refractories, including its Research Institute, Shaped/Unshaped Refractories Business Division, R&D Department and GS Business Division, also attended the meeting.
Six themed technical presentations were delivered at this session. Closely following the general trend of lowcarbon and green metallurgy, the presentations focused on hotbutton challenges within the industry and triggered thorough discussions. In the field of refractories for hydrogen metallurgy, both sides exchanged views on the development status of refractories for the HyREX hydrogen reduction ironmaking process, as well as technical challenges that hydrogenbased lowcarbon green metallurgy poses to refractories. They shared new research subjects and R&D ideas concerning the service performance of refractories under working conditions of innovative hydrogenmetallurgy processes.
Regarding key refractories and manufacturing technologies for steelmaking and continuous casting, Chosun Refractories introduced the TSG system and innovative refractories manufacturing technologies, and shared technical solutions for improving molten steel cleanliness and casting efficiency. Both sides elaborated on the anticlogging mechanism of submerged entry nozzles and its industrial application, together with the development and onsite application performance of largesize fused silica bricks for coke ovens. Sinosteel LIRR presented the R&D progress of the novel SialonTiNSiC composite nonoxide refractory material, demonstrating its performance characteristics and application potential. Participants raised questions and engaged in animated discussions over the presentations, exchanging R&D experience and onsite operation feedback.
Since the launch of technical exchanges and cooperation, the two parties have continuously shared scientific research outcomes and practical field experience in the refractories sector, providing solid references for mutual technological upgrading. Both sides stated that they will maintain regular technical communications going forward, leverage their respective strengths in R&D and industrial capacity, jointly drive technological innovation of refractories, facilitate the green and lowcarbon transformation of hightemperature steel industries, and pursue collaborative innovation and shared development.
