Innovative Breakthrough | The project led by China Steel Luonai Institute has passed the evaluation of scientific and technological achievements

Recently, the Chinese Society of Metals organized a scientific and technological achievement evaluation meeting in Beijing to evaluate the scientific and technological achievements of the "New Technology and Application of Immersion Water Mouth Anti nodule and Large scale Inclusion Removal in Steel Based on High temperature Charge Characteristics Discovered" jointly completed by China Iron and Steel Luoyang Institute, Northeastern University, Shanghai University, Baoshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., Shougang Jingtang Iron and Steel Joint Co., Ltd., and Nanjing Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. The evaluation committee is composed of 11 experts from universities, research institutes, and the metallurgical industry. Academician Gan Yong from China Steel Research and Technology Group Co., Ltd. serves as the chairman of the evaluation committee, and Academician Mao Xinping from Beijing University of Science and Technology serves as the vice chairman. Li Hongxia, chief scientist of Baowu, director of State Key Laboratory of Advanced Refractory Materials, general director of the project, and Wang Gang, general manager of Sinosteel Luoyang Institute of Refractory Materials, attended the meeting.

 

 

 

The evaluation committee listened to the report of the project team, reviewed the evaluation documents and materials, and formed an evaluation opinion after questioning and discussion: the project focuses on the international problem of immersion nozzle nodule formation and the production of large inclusions, which seriously affects the efficiency of continuous casting and the quality and performance of steel. It focuses on the driving force of the main inclusion Al ₂ O3 in the steel liquid migrating to the immersion nozzle wall, and conducts systematic research based on interdisciplinary fields such as physics, electrochemistry, defect chemistry, materials science, metallurgy, etc., achieving multiple innovative breakthroughs. The project results have been applied on a large scale to the production of automotive plate steel, bearing steel, and other steel mills such as Baosteel, Shougang, and Nangang, solving key common technical problems such as nozzle nodules and removal of large-sized inclusions that restrict high-quality and efficient steel production. The economic and social benefits are significant, and the prospects for widespread application are broad. The overall results have reached the international leading level.
